Vivien managed The Ear Inn, a bohemian bar, restaurant, and live music venue, during the early '80's in New York City. Independent filmmaking led to a decade in Europe, based in Copenhagen, Berlin, Warsaw, and Helsinki, during the fascinating period of change while the Iron Curtain was coming down.
Back in the States, she became a landscaper, specializing in historical period garden design. Upon the birth of her son, she devoted herself to full time motherhood for five years.
A sworn polyglot, Vivien found an unmet need for illustrated books designed to help children learn second languages. So she founded Macaronic Press, and published Jake the Gardener in English, French, German, and Spanish.
Vivien enjoys cooking, eating, and sharing "Slow Food". She is a committed environmentalist, and an avid cyclist. But above all, she loves to dance Argentine Tango.
It is with great delight that she takes over management of the Weller House Inn, where so many of her interests can come together in one place.
Ted and Eva Kidwell were brought together through their mutual love of music. Ted, a trombonist most of his life, graduated from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music with a degree in performance. To supplement his chosen vocation, Ted apprenticed with a carpenter in the Puget Sound, Washington area. He soon learned that he had another outstanding talent in woodworking and carpentry.
Eva grew up in Trollhättan, Sweden, and arrived in America ten years ago to study bassoon performance at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. Ted and Eva did not attend the conservatory at the same time, but later met in the Vallejo Symphony, where they both played for 5 years.
Living in Marin County with their young daughter, Linda, Ted and Eva soon realized that their mutual dream was to move to a rural area to run a bed and breakfast inn. Casually browsing among real estate offices in Mendocino County one weekend in early 1997, they came across the Weller House, a beautiful home with great potential that was unoccupied and slowly falling into disrepair. They fell in love with the house and its possibilities, and successfully purchased it and began the extensive renovation project in September 1997.
Ted's background allowed him to supervise the renovation project, as well as personally do a large portion of the work himself. Guests will undoubtedly enjoy his quick wit and warm, gregarious manner. Eva has supervised a great deal of the renovation as well, and was responsible for collecting and restoring many of the antiques found in the inn. She is also a ceramic and fabric artist. There isn't a guest room that does not display her elaborate hand-painted tiles or traditional quilts. Eva's warm manner and European sense of hospitality guarantee that guests will be comfortable, well taken care of, and will most assuredly have plenty to eat.
